St. Mark’s Anglican Church – Via Maggio 18, Florence. St. Mark’s Anglican Church, located at Via Maggio 18, in the heart of Florence and just a few steps from Ponte Santa Trinita, is a unique and atmospheric venue for concerts and opera performances. Its intimate setting, enriched by a combination of different architectural styles, creates a special atmosphere in which music and theatre can be experienced in a direct and engaging way. The layout of the church allows the audience to sit only a few metres from the performers, following closely the expressions, gestures and emotions of the singers during arias and duets. The church is also heated during the winter season. This is the home of Opera at St. Mark’s Church, a project dedicated to the great tradition of Italian opera and to classical concerts. The group presents complete operas and concert programmes with performers in period costumes and productions carefully adapted to the intimate character of the venue. The project is now in its 18th season and has welcomed thousands of spectators from Florence and around the world. The performances are also designed for an international audience: an introduction in English is provided at the beginning of the performance, while programme notes are available in Italian, English, French and German. Drinks can also be purchased during the interval. St. Mark’s Anglican Church therefore becomes an integral part of the experience: a historic and intimate setting in which music, voice and theatre can be enjoyed in a particularly intense and personal way.
